Temple Wood Stone Circle, Argyll

Temple Wood Stone Circle, Argyll
Temple Wood, Argyll, Scotland, Stone Circle, NR827979

Temple Wood, is in the Kilmartin Valley, an area rich in megalithic remnants. The largest stone circle contains a cist surronded by an inner ring of stones (see below), and two of the kerbstones have characteristic spiral artwork marked on them

The small and incomplete northern circle started as a timber setting, dated to around 3500BC which would make this one of the earlier sites of prehistoric activity in Britain.

Nearby are the Nether Largie chambered cairns which also have decorated stones.
